Biodiesel
Fuels Construction in Evansville
EVANSVILLE, WISCONSIN
– August 27th, 2007 – A Wisconsin construction
contractor is helping build Wisconsin’s largest
biodiesel plant in Evansville, and they are using biodiesel
to get the job done.
Mann Brothers,
Inc. of Elkhorn is engaged in the site excavation and
dirt work at the North Prairie Productions facility in
Evansville. The biodiesel plant under construction is
expected to produce over 45 million gallons per year after
completion in 2008. The construction project employs earth
movers, bulldozers, backhoes, and nearly 25 trucks, all
of which are expected to consume approximately 3,000 gallons
of B5 per day for the duration of their contract in completing
their work in Evansville.
“We’ve
often used biodiesel on our job sites when it’s
been available,” says Mann Brothers President Wally
Utter, explaining that it promotes energy independence
and the local economy while providing excellent service
as an alternative to petroleum. “When we learned
we would be engaged in the construction of a biofuels
facility in Evansville, it made sense for us to support
the industry by securing B5 (5% biodiesel) for use in
our operations on site.”
“We applaud
Mann Brothers for their initiative in requesting biodiesel
for their equipment on this project,” said Mike
Bandt, Energy Division Manager for Landmark Services Cooperative,
which is contracted to supply the Cenex Fieldmaster®
brand of B5 biodiesel used by Mann Brothers. Bandt points
out that this use of biodiesel offers opportunity for
local grain producers to experience economic benefit by
essentially growing the fuel used in the construction.
“It nicely closes the circle here and shows how
biodiesel contributes to the local economy by keeping
dollars in the community that previously flowed overseas.”
Biodiesel is
an alternative to petroleum diesel that is made primarily
from soy oil and other vegetable oils and animal fats.
It is valued as an advanced biofuel for the efficiency
of its production; for reduced air emissions; for its
reduced carbon footprint, and for its contribution to
both our domestic economy and this nation’s pursuit
of energy independence. More information on the North
Prairie Productions biodiesel project in Evansville can

Biodiesel Association (WBA) is a membership trade organization
