Biodiesel
Fuels Construction in Evansville
EVANSVILLE, WISCONSIN
– October 24th, 2007 – Construction of North
Prairie Production’s 45-million gallon per year
biodiesel plant is now in full swing and other exciting
progress is being made on the renewable
energy front. Below is a sampling of some recent and upcoming
related activity:
Soybean
Crushing Facility Moves One Huge Step Closer with passage
of the 2007-09 state budget
After the passage of the state budget on October 23, Evansville
is another step closer to becoming the site of Wisconsin’s
first soybean crushing facility. The Governor and the
Legislature showed their commitment to renewable energy
by including a $22 million renewable energy package in
the budget, which includes a $4 million grant for the
crushing facility. Landmark Services Cooperative is actively
pursuing the grant, with plans to build the facility adjacent
to North Prairie Production’s biodiesel plant and
its existing grain storage facilities. In September, Landmark
announced it will match any investment made by the state
toward a soybean crushing facility in Evansville, up to
$4 million. Evansville is enthusiastically backing the
project, indicating that based on the expected tax increment
created by the soybean crushing plant, Evansville could
provide in excess of $2 million in tax incremental financing,
potentially bringing the initial investment in the project
to $10 million. With its prime location in the heart of
soybean country and its existing transportation infrastructure,
Evansville offers the perfect location for the crushing
facility. A local crushing plant would boost economic
growth and bring substantial benefits to Wisconsin’s
12,000 soybean farmers and other agricultural producers,
due to reduced transportation costs and increased soybean
production.
Evansville
Celebrates its Designation as the Soybean Capital of Wisconsin
Evansville was officially designated the “Soybean
Capital of Wisconsin” at a ceremony held October
15 to kick off the first-ever Soybean Celebration and
Festival. The festival was organized to educate residents
of all ages on the many uses and benefits of soybeans,
including its role in creating biodiesel fuel. Throughout
the week, students at Evansville High School learned all
about soybeans through a special curriculum. And, on October
20, the high school became the site of the Soybean Festival,
where hundreds of people turned out to browse booths and
displays and participate in soybean recipe taste-testing.
Festival-goers were also invited to tour a soybean operations
facility and get a first-hand glimpse of the progress
at North Prairie Production’s biodiesel fuel plant.
The success of the event is a great sign of support from
the community for Evansville’s endeavors in the
biodiesel fuel market.
