Biodiesel Wins At Tomah Super National Tractor Pull

TOMAH, Wis. – June 27, 2006 – Top competitors burning biodiesel and participating in the Wisconsin Tractor Pullers Association special biodiesel award program won the top three spots in the Super Farm Tractor Class at the Wisconsin Dairyland Super National Tractor Pull in Tomah.

Over 50 competitors from throughout the country participated in the diesel-powered Super Farm Class at this premier, national event for tractor pullers last weekend.

WTPA driver Clint Dornfeld, Cambria, steered “Hayride II” to top honors by pulling 293.65 feet. Coming in second was James Slama, Reedsburg, who pulled 292.72 feet with Fast & Furious Deere, while third place went to Jeff Rahl, Lancaster, pulling 292.505 with Doctor Deere. All three drivers recently signed on to compete in this year’s special biodiesel purse.

The special biodiesel prize was established by the WTPA through a sponsorship from North Prairie Productions, LLC, Waterloo, Wisconsin. Virtually all qualified WTPA pullers in this class are participating in the promotion and awards will be presented based on season-long point accumulations. Participating tractors can be identified at pulling events by an exclusive decal indicating that they are “Powered by biodiesel provided by North Prairie Productions.”

North Prairie Productions will be at the WTPA tractor pull in Antigo this Sunday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m., showcasing the biodiesel program and promoting advantages of the renewable fuel. Look for the company’s diesel pickup decorated with a soybean field and soybean association logos on the pull grounds.

Biodiesel is a domestically produced, renewable fuel made from animal fats and vegetable oils, such as soybeans. To start things off, North Prairie Productions, LLC, Waterloo, Wisconsin provided biodiesel to help fuel participating tractors in the Super Farm class at this season’s WTPA events.

“Biodiesel is safe for any modern compression-ignition, diesel engine without modification,” says Jeff Pieterick, vice-president of North Prairie Productions, LLC. “Made primarily from soybean oil, it is a cleaner-burning diesel fuel that is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. In addition, our Wisconsin Tractor Pullers are quickly showing that it also provides good performance. We are very pleased, but not surprised, at this very successful debut of biodiesel at Tomah.”

As a pure fuel, biodiesel contains no petroleum but it is typically blended with petroleum diesel to create biodiesel blends from five percent (B-5) to 20 percent (B-20). Biodiesel significantly improves the lubricity of petroleum diesel fuel at levels as low as 2 percent (B2) and therefore is a preferred addition to petroleum-based, ultra-low sulfur fuels.

North Prairie Productions, LLC, is based in Waterloo, Wisconsin, with intentions of building a large-scale, commercial biodiesel plant in the south-central part of the state.
