Biodiesel Company Challenges Tractor Pullers
Waterloo, Wis. – August 7, 2006 – As this
summer’s tractor pulling season enters the homestretch,
participants in Wisconsin’s inaugural Biodiesel
Challenge are running a closely contested race that could
be decided during the nationally sanctioned event in Beaver
Dam August 12.
Sponsored
by North Prairie Productions, LLC, a company building
a large-scale, commercial biodiesel plant in south-central
Wisconsin, the Biodiesel Challenge presents a year-end
monetary purse to pullers in the Wisconsin Tractor Pullers
Association (WTPA) Super Farm Tractor class based on season-long
point accumulations. Competitor Mike Linnehan, Sparta,
Wis., and his tractor “Green Power” leads
the Biodiesel Challenge with 139 points; second place
is held by Clint Dornfeld with 135 points aboard “Hayride
2” while the team of Mike Eagen and Bob Gray pulling
with Poltergist sit in third place with 134 points.
“Tractor
pulls are a great summer pastime here in Wisconsin and
the board of directors of North Prairie Productions couldn’t
think of a better way to highlight the powerful benefits
of clean-burning, domestically produced biodiesel than
by promoting its use with tractor pullers,” relates
Jeff Pieterick, vice president of North Prairie Productions,
LLC. “Many of these tractor pullers have family
farms or are farmers themselves, so it was a natural partnership
for us. And it seems like all of these competitors understand
the intricacies of diesel engine performance and realize
the advantage of using biodiesel in their high-performance,
competition tractors as well as in their trucks and tractors
back home on the farm.”
To
start things off, North Prairie Productions provided a
supply of biodiesel to any and all WTPA Super Farm Tractor
competitors willing to accept the WTPA North Prairie Productions
Biodiesel Challenge and introduce biodiesel usage into
their fuel program. Everyone did.
Participating
tractors can be identified at pulling events by a special
decal indicating that they are “Powered by biodiesel
provided by North Prairie Productions.”
Biodiesel is a domestically produced, renewable fuel made
from animal fats and vegetable oils, such as soybeans
that is safe for compression-ignition, diesel engine without
modification. Made primarily from soybeans, it is a cleaner-burning
diesel fuel that also is simple to use, biodegradable,
nontoxic and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.
As
a pure fuel, biodiesel contains no petroleum but it is
typically blended with petroleum diesel to create biodiesel
blends from five percent (B-5) to 20 percent (B-20). Biodiesel
significantly improves the lubricity of petroleum diesel
fuel at levels as low as 2 percent (B2) and therefore
is a preferred addition to petroleum-based, ultra-low
sulfur fuels.
North
Prairie Productions, LLC, is based in Waterloo, Wisconsin,
with intentions of building a large-scale, commercial
biodiesel plant in the south-central part of the state.
